About Power Skating Camp Toronto
RHA Hockey Power Skating Camp is a 10-hour program aimed at improving a player’s skating abilities and performance specifically for hockey gameplay. During the camp, we will focus on teaching game-specific skating elements and practical application in specific situations. To do this, we target specific aspects of skating mechanics and incorporate resistance training to develop muscle memory for firing patterns and movement mechanics specific to skating.

Power Skating Camp Structure
Comprehensive approach and dynamic environment
RHA Power Skating two-phase session structure focuses on developing a strong foundation of skating mechanics, emphasizing the application of element combinations for versatile movement in different game situations. We enhance the training experience by incorporating targeted resistance and overspeed training. This integrated approach ensures that players not only possess a strong technical foundation but also have the ability to apply their skills effectively in the fast-paced and dynamic nature of the game.
First Hour
Develop Mechanics, Learn Techniques
Improve skating mechanics. Session always start with focusing on mastering the fundamental mechanics of skating, building solid base for further skill development. Understanding proper stride mechanics, edge control, weight transfer, and balance lays the groundwork for executing skating elements effectively.
Learn Skating Elements. Phase II: main focus is to skillfully incorporate various skating mechanics to master skating elements. Players learn multiple techniques like crossovers, mohawks, pivots, stops, and transitions to create smooth and dynamic movements on the ice. The priority is mastering these elements with and without a puck so that players can gain the required skills for controlling the puck effectively while maintaining proper skating mechanics.
Develop advanced techniques. Phase III: emphasis is on combining skating elements to develop advanced techniques. This involves smoothly integrating different components and movements to enhance techniques like puck protection, faking out opponents, putting pressure on opponent, and so on. The goal is to equip players with skating patterns that allow them to excel in complex game situations and make a significant impact on the ice.
Second hour
Resistance and Overspeed
Specialized tools like bungee cords, release straps, and parachutes are utilized during resistance and overspeed training on the ice, leading to powerful outcomes. They help enhance speed, acceleration, strength, improve skating mechanics, and contribute to greater overall performance on the ice.
Resistance training enhances muscular strength, power, and endurance, allowing skaters to generate more force with each stride. This leads to improved speed, acceleration, and overall skating power. Secondly, resistance training improves muscle engagement and coordination, optimizing skating mechanics and enhancing movement efficiency.
Overspeed training is a method used to improve speed and enhance motor skills by challenging athletes to move at a faster pace than their normal capabilities. It works by increasing movement speed, promoting neuromuscular adaptations, improving technique, aiding in motor skill acquisition, and boosting mental confidence.
